CounterPath and Covergence aim to prevent unauthorised access

VoIP developers CounterPath Solutions and Covergence have announced a partnership that promises "bullet-proof" VoIP security.

Covergence has certified CounterPath's eyeBeam 1.5 Video SIP softphone application for use with its Eclipse SIP security and management offering.
The firms claim to offer customers VoIP security that prevents any unauthorised access to the user's call, and protects the service provider from attacks intended to disrupt or disable their service.

The companies are seeking to allay concerns around VoIP security that continue to present a major hurdle for organisations seeking to take advantage of the promised benefits of VoIP technology, including cost savings, improved service levels and enhanced productivity.

"Today's savvy consumers are seeking service providers which can assure their privacy while avoiding service disruptions, toll fraud and user identity theft, "

said Bob O'Neil, president and chief executive at Covergence.

"By certifying CounterPath's softphone with Eclipse, we are protecting the subscriber connection and the service infrastructure, while helping VoIP and SIP-based services to reach their full market potential and become as reliable and safe as the PSTN."
