Routing systems provider Internap just announced that it was tapped by broadband service provider Rapid Link to provide colocation and high performance IP services. The move will aid Rapid Link to serve U.S. military and other niche markets with telecom services.
The deal calls for Internap Performance IP service to route VoIP calls made by Rapid Link's 25,000 military family customers across more than 50 countries on five continents, while improving the quality of service (QoS) to its customers. Internap's technology is also being used by other VoIP service providers such as Vonage ( News - Alert) and BroadVoice, among others.
"Choosing Internap was an easy decision for us," said Rapid Link's president David Hess in a statement. "Thanks to Internap's IP footprint, we're able to extend our global reach and avoid building local points of presence in each international market we serve. Plus, their managed routing on Tier1 backbones helps provide the toll quality our customers expect, while the global reach also helps the military personnel because they are frequently deployed to many remote parts of the world."
Follow up:
Internap Performance IP service adapts to network performance changes without having to depend on manual intervention. The system uses proprietary route-control technology to continuously monitor the performance of each backbone for latency, packet loss, and congestion, by monitoring the performance and availability of routes across multiple networks. In case of congestion detection, Internap intelligent route- control technology automatically reroutes traffic across the best available path in real-time.
The Internap Advantage Delivered as a managed service, Performance IP includes intelligent route-control technology to identify optimal paths for business-critical applications such as VoIP; is supported by a proactive Service Level Agreement (SLA) and provides 24x7x365 direct access to certified network engineers. Internap also offers VoIP Assessment and Optimization services through its Professional Services team.
Internap made news just last month when it announced it extended its Professional Services portfolio to include VoIP Assessment and Optimization services. The company said its new offerings include an analysis of existing IP network performance, which can be augmented by remediation services to optimize the client's Internet connectivity for the effective delivery of VoIP.
The company said the two VoIP service additions will benefit its clients by preventing costly capital expenditures, improving capacity planning and the ability to intelligently negotiate key service level agreements (SLAs) with their service providers.
