Internet-based calling is soaring in 2006.


As carriers aim to reduce the cost of sending phone calls and subscribers aim for lower phone bills, the number of people subscribing to Voice over Internet Protocol, or VoIP, services will almost double this year, to 47.3 million, according to consultancy Infonetics.
